MALTA JAZZ FESTIVAL

The Maltese enjoy a festive ambience the whole year round. Festivals and religious events flourish on the island, including Malta Jazz Festival, Rolex Middle Sea Race, The Festival, Malta Fireworks Festival, Village Festa, Malta International Jazz Festival, Malta International Airshow, Classic Wine Festival, Malta Historical Cities Festival and Our Lady of Victories

The Malta Jazz Festival takes place on the third weekend of July each year. Organized by the Malta Council for Culture and Arts, the festival is held seaside in the city of Valletta and constantly draw jazz from all over the world. The festival has all kinds of jazz lovers with a diverse merge of musicians and a rapidly growing international reputation.

The celebrated `Mediterranean Food Festival' has been in tradition since 2002 and caters some of the best Mediterranean food. This four-day festival in Valletta brings together chefs and food producers from countries like Egypt, Greece, Spain, France, Italy and Turkey for a foodie's paradise.

The Royal Malta Yacht Club and the Royal Ocean Racing club and Rolex organize a very important yacht race once a year. The Middle Sea Race has been running since 1968 and covers 608 marine miles around the coast of Malta, along the side of Sicily, and past the volcanic island of Stromboli. Entry is open and around 25-30 yachts compete in October each year.

Malta Fireworks Festival (April/May)
The Malta Tourism Authority's stunning Malta Fireworks Festival will be held at the Lascaris Wharf, Grand Harbor in Valletta. The Grand Harbor was once again selected as the place of the festival since it offers possibly one of the most awe-inspiring views in the world, surrounding the forts of St Angelo, Ricasoli and St. Elmo, as well as the Valletta and Senglea fortifications. The fireworks festival-with all its magnificence, is a display by fireworks factories to reveal their aptitude in the craft of fireworks displays. The festival also has a spectacular laser show, titled "The History of Malta", incorporating fancy light extravaganza portrays Malta's long and varied history to the sound of fireworks and music.

Village Festa (May to September)
The long Maltese summers herald festa time. This traditional festival being held from 16th century is indeed a must-see and must-attend festival!

The week-long celebrations rejoice the parish patron saint. The celebrations themselves end in the grand finale of a firework display. Also, there is plenty of brass band music, peeling of bells and street life. The main event is held on Saturday's and Sunday's.

Malta International Jazz Festival (July)
Jazz enthusiasts and music lovers can look forward this year's version which is to feature top musicians at the historical location of Ta' Liesse, magnifing the event further.

September
Malta International Airshow
The 13th edition of the Malta International Airshow will provide a unique opportunity for you to have access to some of the airfield ramps, view the aircraft and chat with the pilots. There will be flying displays by civil and military aircraft, including parachute teams, as well as a static display of various types of aircraft. This will take place at the Luqa Airfield.

September
Classic Wine Festival
For the fourth successive year this marvelous event will install the origination of the Maltese wine harvest, featuring an amazing event which is held at the beautiful Upper Barrakka Gardens.

There will be a wide assortment of quality Maltese wines from a number of Malta grown grapes such as Syrah, Chardonnay, Grenache, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and also the two exclusive aboriginal Maltese grapes Ghirgentina and Gellewza. The food stalls will have a range of international dishes to choose from including Maltese seafood kebabs, juicy French steak with pepper sauce, Chinese sweet and sour pork and much more.

October
Malta Historical Cities Festival
The glorious 11 days of cultural entertainment highlighting Malta's main historic towns, specifically those of Valletta, Mdina, Victoria in Gozo, Birgu, Bormla and Senglea. The festival incorporates street theatre, pageantry, folk music and dance, crafts, exhibitions and traditional Maltese food. A number of concerts will also be held outdoors and inside historic buildings and Baroque churches. The culmination of the festival will be the Valletta Military Tattoo which will be held at Palace Square, Valletta.

8 December
Our Lady of Victories
Our Lady of Victories-a remembrance ceremony in Valletta to celebrate the lifting of the 1565 barricade against the Turks, the surrender of the French in 1800 and the end of the barricade of the Axis powers in 1943. The customary multihued and keenly-contested boat race, or regatta, is also held at the Grand Harbour on this day.

We're known as one of the most exciting venues on the jazz circuit. Staged below the bastions of the Islands' capital, the 16th century city of Valletta, and by the waters of Grand Harbour, Malta Jazz certainly has a SPECTACULAR LOCATION.
